APC threatens to sack ‘illegal’ state chairmen
Akande
said this during the inauguration of 34 state chairmen including that
of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, on Thursday.
He
explained that the party had zero tolerance for illegality while
explaining that the inauguration did not grant the chairmen immunity
from being given the boot if the process leading to their emergence was
found to be fraudulent.
According
to him, the national headquarters is still looking into complains from
states, which he did not mention, with a view to reviewing the outcome
of some of the congresses.
He recalled that since INEC registered the party on July
31, 2013, the party’s interim national executive committee, which was
inaugurated soon afterwards, had met 10 times to chart a course for the
new party.
He
said pursuant to its mandate, the interim national executive set about
structuring the party through the registration of members and the
conduct of congresses at the local, ward and state levels.
Akande
said, “We conducted primaries at the ward level at the local government
level and at the state level that is why you have become the face of
these activities here today.
“That
is not the end of the story, there are complains and protests about how
some of you emerged we are not going these under the carpet.
“We
are going to continue our investigations on how you emerged and those
of you who emerged not in accordance with the guidelines of this party
will be thrown out.
“It
has happened before in this country when governors are inaugurated and
it is later discovered that they have not properly emerged they are
removed.
“If
you know you have anything to cover, the APC is not the place for you.
As times goes on we shall issue guidelines for the national convention.”
