Militants attack Iraq's largest oil refinery

 


Clashes erupted at around 4:00 am (0100 GMT) at the Baiji oil refinery in Salaheddin province, north of Baghdad, and militants destroyed some stores of oil after entering the complex.
The Sunni Islamist-led militant, launched an assault on Iraqi main oil Refinery early Wednesday using mortars and machine guns, attacking from two direction capturing Swathes territory in Iraq.
An official said that fighters of the al-Qaeda began their attack on the Beiji refinery some 250 kilometres north of the Capital city in Baghdad, late Tuesday night.
The Government forces have made new air strikes on militant approaching the State capital. The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that “Tehran would not spare any effort to defend Shia Holy Shrines in Iraq against mercenaries, murderer and terrorist”.
The Beiji Refinery goes towards domestic consumption in the country. Any risks in the refinery will cause chaos, Electricity shortage and may face civil war in the state.
