Panic in Chibok over alleged Boko Haram letter

BY NDAHI MARAMA

MAIDUGURI—There was panic in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, where over 200 female students of the Government Girls’ Secondary School, GGSS, were abducted by Boko Haram Islamic militants over 60 days ago, following a letter purportedly from the sect members informing them of their plans to attack the local government again.
A top local government official in Chibok town, who spoke on the condition of anonymity revealed this to newsmen in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, yesterday.
According to him, when they met the police with the letter they were assured of maximum protection, but the police, however, complained of lack of fuel for their vehicles, as the ban on the sale of fuel in the local government for fear that insurgents would use it to burn houses made it impossible to access the commodity.
He, however, stressed that the local government assured the security operatives that it would buy the fuel for them and also pleaded for more reinforcement from their headquarters as the number of security personnel might not be enough.
He said: “Whenever Boko Haram tell you that they are coming, they never fail to come. Our fears now is that, we do not know when and how they are going to come but our people are in great fear. We are calling for prayers as well as the government to provide adequate security in Chibok.”
